“ This very small restaurant in this typical town in the South of France has a very rich and elaborate menu, which however, we did not have the chance to try. Our van broke down in front of this place and the owner and the chef not only offered their help and a bowl of water to our thirsty dog, but also made, free of charge, the most delicious sandwiches I have ever had in my life, and I am not a fan! My guess is that, if what it is in the menu is half as good as the sandwiches we had, this place is more than worth the try, especially when food becomes a mean of helping people! Thank you ”

“ Our hosts at the nearby Chambre de Hotes "Au Mas Des Calmettes" suggested Le Retro as a great place for a final meal before leaving the area (and France, sadly) on our way back to the US. We are so glad they did. We were looking for fast and good to speed us on our way to Toulouse. Turned out the food was not just good, it was great and we didn't care about fast anymore. While they also have pizzas on the menu, dining on the patio out back, we opted for the full-fledged French menu which is quite extensive. My wife had linguine aux gambas (17.50) and I had Dos (pave) de lieu (18.50), both absolutely marvelous. The bread, the white wine, the whole meal became one of those indescribable events that seemed like a dream, the food was so good. My dessert du jour was pear/peach and crumbles drowning in chocolate mousse. It was all I could to do keep from licking the plate. I was begging to stay in France but we had promises to keep and miles to go before we sleep, so our next trip, we hope, will include an immediate stop at Le Retro. Not surprisingly, we've found some of the best restaurants in open country France behind deceptively plain façades and this is another 'sleeper' we're so glad to add to that list. P.S. These are the nicest people! The chef even came out front to the street as we were leaving to tell us thanks for dining with them. Very touching. We will be back ”
